For some reason the creators of the Gallery registration function, the function that allows users to register, didn't create an option to let the administrator know when there was an account waiting for confirmation. Whenever a new user registered, the user received all the necessary emails, but I didn't know any action was necessary until the next time I logged on. I was able to modify the registration plugin. I am now sent an email as soon as a new user confirms their registration. At this time I have the administrator's email address hard-coded into the plugin, but if anyone needs/wants the modified plugin, just message me.

A little over a week ago, I was asked if I had heard of the Myers-Briggs personality types. It just so happened that I had heard of the different personality types. In fact, I had taken a test to determine my personality type for one of my classes at LeTourneau U. The friend who asked me this question was interested in how the different personality types interacted with one another. Unfortunately for that conversation topic, I didn't remember what my personality type was. Yesterday I remembered this conversation and decided I wanted to take the test again. It's a very simple test of 70 two choice questions. The test I found online was not the original Myers-Briggs test, but an offshoot. I took the online test and found out that I was an ISTP. That is an Introvert (no suprise there), Sensing, Thinking, Perceiver. Today I got the original test and took that. The first time I was hurried and received a result of ISTJ. Basically the same result as the online test except I was Judging rather than Perceiving. This caused me to be a little skeptical of the results of the test, so I went ahead and took the test a third and fourth time. These times I got ISTX (both Judging and Perceiving) and ISTP. After reading the wikipedia entry for ISTPs and I quote:

 

ISTPs excel at analyzing situations to reach the heart of a problem so that they can swiftly implement a functional repair, making them ideally suited to the field of engineering. Naturally quiet people, they are interested in understanding how systems operate, focusing on efficient operation and structure. They are open to new information and approaches. But contrary to their seemingly detached natures,ISTPs are often capable of humorously insightful observations about the world around them. They can also be closet daredevils who gravitate toward fast-moving or risky hobbies (such as bungee jumping, hang gliding, racing, motorcycling, and parachuting), recreational sports (such as downhill skiing, paintball, ice hockey, and scuba diving), and careers (such as aviation and firefighting).

ISTPs may sometimes seem to act without regard for procedures, directions, protocol, or even their own safety. But while their approach may seem haphazard, it is in fact based on a broad store of knowledge developed over time through action and keen observation. ISTPs enjoy self-sufficiency and take pride in developing their own solutions to problems.

 

This describes me almost perfectly. I am able to solve problems quickly. I enjoy learning how a system works. I am studying to be an electrical engineer. I ride a motorcycle. I enjoyed paintball the one time I was able to go. Same with scuba diving. And I greatly enjoy volunteering as a firefighter. My final point: my mother could never understand how I was able to solve problems. She thought I was jumping to conclusions and just trying the first thing I thought might be the issue. The problem was that I was correct about the issue more often than not. :-) I do have a little of the ISTJ side, but not enough to consider myself a J. just a well rounded P.  When I took the test at LeTourneau, I don't remember my type being this well defined. I just find it curious how almost every point about ISTPs applies to me.

Today, I fixed a few issues with the site. The button needed to finish user registration is now visible, and I have installed an RSS feeder per request. I was also notified of an issue with the text input fields on the register screen, but I have not been able to reproduce the issue yet. :-P


As some of you may have seen, Thursday afternoon the sun ejected two coronal masses. This caused the Aurora Borealis to become visible further south early Friday night. However, I didn't hear about it until late this afternoon, so I missed the show. :-( I went ahead and checked for aurorae anyway this evening/morning, but I didn't see anything. There was a third CME this afternoon. Unfortunately this CME is unlikely to cause an aurorae shift, because it is headed away from Earth. :-P

In other news....The wedding on Saturday went off with just one hitch. Haha. Everyone began to leave town right after the wedding, and all the guests but one had gone by this morning. I had a wonderful time getting to know Davy's family/friends. I believe that this weekend is the most I have enjoyed myself since the beginning of June. Thanks guys!

You know how when you are climbing a steep muddy hill how difficult it is to keep your footing and to not fall flat on your face in the mud? That is just about how my life seems to be going right now. I just start to get my balance and to move forward then...splat. Back on my face in the mud at the bottom of the hill.

I was recently persuaded by a friend of mine: SuperBeck to update my website a little more regularly. Friends who are willing to persuade me to do something useful with my time are amazing! (Crikey and Kirin) :-D Thanks guys.

A quick update for the last week....

I finished my co-op with Noranda Aluminum a week ago Thursday, moved back to Rolla on Friday, and flew to Maine for two weddings on Saturday. It was a busy few days. Did I mention weddings?

Two good friends of mine Joel and Christina Epley nee Bouchard were married on Tuesday. A great time was had by all. I met a few new friends and got to visit with a few old friends. It was amazing.

Tomorrow, Christina's younger sister Anna is getting married! It has been a busy few days what with helping to prepare dinner with SuperBeck last night/yesterday; the bachelor party dinner, the sharing of advice/maladvice, and obligatory groom ponding tonight; and the wedding tomorrow. However despite the amount of work, I have still had time to make a few new friends and renew friendships with old friends. Tomorrow will be busy and people will begin to go their seperate ways. Bittersweet times.
